The Tundra is one of the better full size pickup trucks out there but their latest models have really been on par with the rest of the competition, especially after Ford released their all aluminum truck. This is also the main reason why the sales plummeted with the last model. The 2016 Toyota Tundra though is aimed to be a refresh which will put it back on the market and it will probably give the truck a chance to regain what it deserves. The base Tundra will come with same base engine as 2015 model.

2016 Toyota Tundra changes

Everyone knows that Tundra never was the most powerful but it always provided a good level of quality as well as one of the best interiors in its class, making it a favorite for many people who didn’t need just a workhorse. The 2016 Toyota Tundra will use a stronger chassis as well as a new body shell which even though it will still be made out of steel, the total weight should go down by around 200 pounds thanks to a lot of weight savings on the engine and running gear.

The exterior of the 2016 Toyota Tundra will also change but not so much as you would think. The front end will change slightly with a new slimmer front grille as well as a different front bumper which will now be color matched to the truck rather than being chromed like on the 2015 model. On the interior the new Toyota Tundra 2016 will remain just as luxurious as before with things such as satellite navigation, automatic climate control as well as leather upholstery and even wood inserts offered as standard. The top of the line pickup truck model will even offer a stretched cabin which will carry with ease up to 5 people in perfect comfort, a trait which no other truck has so far.

Under the hood of the new 2016 Tundra the old engines are most likely going to be kept as they are plenty powerful and also smooth, even though the provided power isn’t as much as that of its competitors. However, beside the current 310 horsepower 4.6-liter V8 and the 381 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engines, the Toyota pickup truck will most likely gain a brand new diesel unit. Even though most people think it will be a 4.5-liter V8 diesel from the Land Cruiser, it seems that it will use an American made Cummins 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 which should be good for at least 300 horsepower and more than 550 lb-ft of torque, engine which would provide a massive advantage in the current lineup of trucks. This will not only allow that 2016 Toyota Tundra towing capacity goes up more than 12,000 pounds safely but it will also provide a 10-30% better fuel consumption than the previous V8.
